I make no bones about the fact that I'm not interested in availing myself of the opportunity to
go ice diving. All that work…all that gear…and why? To fr-fr-freeze my a*% off for an hour. And then ride
back to the dock, fr-fr-freezing for some more? Ugh. No thanks.
However, for those of you who’re tougher more adventurous than me, check out this great
piece about ice diving in Austria. Despite freezing
air temps and occasional reg failure, diving in Attersee Lake – where an underwater forest now rests –
actually sounds kinda fun. But the real ice diving comes in Regaeur Lake, a smaller lake covered with a thick sheet of
ice. His experience sounds so rewarding – and different from what most recreational divers are used to –
that John Liddiard actually makes me want to try ice diving. Sometime.
